Is getting rich a science? Yes Sir!
I don’t know why but today I am in a fighting mood. It must be my Dutch heritage that floats to the surface once in a while.
Today I want to hear some clear, mean, give it to me straight, hard facts when it comes to people telling me what it takes to get what I want.
Today I feel like winning the arguments that goes on in my mind.
I love to hear my mind say; “Oh my, how come she is making so much sense today?”
And voila, I found just the book I needed.
A book with good hard facts written with crystal clear clarity in an adorable authorative voice.
Man, was I ready for some old fashioned “shut up, just listen for once, I know what I am doing” kind of straight talk that I can pass on to my own mind.
And Wallace D. Wattles is just my man, he lets me have it, bless his book ‘The Science of getting Rich’, written 90 years ago, one year before his death.
The whole book is full of gems.
I love this one; “Keep your mind at home, it can accomplish more there than elsewhere.”
I have been having a bit of a battle about not reading the newspaper or not feeling compelled to do something about the poor and the weak of the earth.
But he says confidently; “You just focus on getting rich and that is the best way you can help the poor” and that is that.
Only in what he calls ‘the Competitive model’ is the struggle to get rich a scramble for power, taking from others; we win and they lose.
In ‘the Creative model’ that he is on about, you get rich by adding value for everyone, you open the way for others to follow you into wealth ………and by doing so you inspire other people to do so too.
Well, this doesn’t sound as if being rich is dirty, greedy or only for a chosen few…….this is his take; “To become really rich is the noblest aim you can have in life, for it includes everything else.”
And the basis on which he says this is his ‘knowing’ that there is an infinite supply and we don’t have to take from somebody else to have what we want.
That is his big argument, we can create, rather than compete, steal, deceive or deplete.
And if you get rich you pull others up with you, if you stay poor you keep others down around you.
Now that is language I like and let’s see if I agree.
How has money pulled me and others up in my own life?
I vividly remember a time when I went shopping with my mum.
I found 3 dresses I liked and I couldn’t decide which one to take. I can still feel the absolute delight when my mum said I could have all three. It was such a glorious moment.
I can still see the dresses and recall that feeling of total abundance; it was so much fun, more valuable than just the price of the dresses.
I sensed my mum’s pleasure that she had the money to buy me those dresses.
As she has known hard times with little money, being able to give so generously pleased her no end.
That whole shopping experience was just exquisite.
It created an enormous appreciation on both sides and it definitely was a pulling up if you ask me.
And now I come to think of it I am doing some uplifting soon too.
At the end of the year I am taking my youngest daughter to Vietnam as a very special 21st birthday present.
We are so much looking forward to it; we will have a most wonderful time that will be precious beyond belief. And my daughter so appreciates the gift.
We have never traveled together and this will be our first great adventure with lots of time to talk, have fun and do some healing as well.
I feel like my mother felt…….and I am sure my daughter is feeling how I felt, we will both carry that with us, changed and more aware.
And when we are there we will flow money and maybe that will cause somebody else to do something special for a family member.
Joy all around for a few bucks.
Admittedly you can have a good time going camping in New Zealand or having your mum sow dresses from cheap material you happen to like, but this is just a notch up on the delight scale.
And that is exactly what Wallace D Wattles says too; “That is it, go for more, it will make you feel so good and it adds so much more value.”
Right enough talk, the ebook ‘The science of getting rich’ is ready for you on ttp://www.scienceofgettingrich.net/ and then tell me how money uplifts your world.

For me spending money on simple things uplifts my world. Buying you flowers, hearing your appreciation and watching how you continue to enjoy those flowers each day uplifts me and all this for a few dollars.
When I’ve given money to a person for no good reason than the giving, I’ve repeatedly seen it uplifting them and me. I love the joy of that exchange when they receive something quite unexpected.
And your words uplift me, just hearing your stories of appreciation. Thanks Wilma.
The hugest parking fine was interpreted to show me up for not renewing my warrant of fitness in good time. So I’ve obeyed the law in the shortest time I could find. Speed often gives us more freedom , eh..
It is interesting to see how and on what we spend our time, attention and money on and how we perceive the value we get from our effort.
John thank goodness knows his money is well spent on flowers for me……
@ Beth. Great stuff how you dealt with the fine….completion and moving in this way is a science…..
HI Wilma
It’s a great book – thanks for sharing it around (The Secret has had much more press when the Science of Getting Rich, like you say, has some real gems). And as you say the book puts ‘getting rich’ / ‘being rich’ in a positive context – great stuff!
cheers
Glad you like it, now together we can make it happen.
This reminds me of why it is important to love the wealthy and truly desire the wealth for everyone – including us. If we don’t believe it is a good thing, and worthy of our time we will never put the effort in to make it happen. Thanks for the great post
.
So spot on Andy, it makes such a difference to my acceptance of my wants….you and K go for it…it will be such a pleasure to see people happy and well cared for and being able to flourish because they have the resources to do what they value and I know you will enjoy the money, you big spender
. Imagine what an example you set for your son as well.
The Science of Getting Rich is certainly a good read and I like it so much more than the Secret because it gives you a step by step guide to what you can do practically to increase your wealth. My weath has not stopped increasing since I read the book several years ago. Glad you are enjoying it too because increasing your wealth on your own is no fun. Love your illustrations of lifting others with money. Enjoy your holiday with your daughter.
@Lorraine, I too like the clarity of what is involved and it is keeping your eye on the ball. I agree that the vision to get into abundance with everybody around me is exciting.
And I sure will have a great holiday wiht my daughter.
